Despite the arduous work that entails virus testing, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) had been exerting effort to find out if African swine fever (ASF) still exists in Bataan.
Except for the towns of Orion, Hermosa and Bagac, all other remaining towns will receive 20 pigs from the “ASF Sentinel Program” of Department of Agriculture.

Dr. Alberto Venturina, provincial veterinarian, said blood collections are made after the dispersal to find out the presence of ASF virus. “Kaya talagang matrabaho,” he said.
Recipients of the program had to disinfect their pens before they qualify for the sentinel scheme. “Mayroon biosecurity evaluation and environmental swabbing to ensure the success of the program,” Venturina explained.

“So far there is no reported ASF case in Bataan. If it is ok already, the red zone will be upgraded to pink zone and hog raisers can restart their business,” he added.
